Albena, Bulgaria / Mumbai — India’s armwrestling contingent has made a powerful mark on the global stage under the leadership of Preeti Jhangiani, President of the People’s Armwrestling Federation India and Vice President of the Asian Armwrestling Federation.
At the 46th World Armwrestling Championship and 27th Para-Armwrestling Championship, held in Albena, Bulgaria from September 10–22, Jhangiani led the Indian team with pride, guiding athletes as they competed against more than 1,500 participants from over 60 countries in what is considered one of the world’s biggest armwrestling events.
Jhangiani, who has been instrumental in popularizing armwrestling in India, called the role “a matter of immense pride.” She said:
“Our players’ dedication and passion inspire me deeply. They are the real pride of India, and it is their hard work that brings us here. I wish each of them success.”

India’s athletes rose to the occasion. Rajbir Nanda created history by clinching a gold medal, while Sreeshanth secured silver, both delivering moments of glory that showcased India’s growing stature in the sport.
The tournament is more than just a competition for India; it is a stage that highlights the grit, discipline, and resilience of its athletes. The Indian team features not only seasoned champions and rising stars but also para-athletes, whose courage and perseverance embody the true spirit of sportsmanship.
With Jhangiani’s spirited leadership and the athletes’ indomitable will, India is scripting a new chapter in its armwrestling journey on the world stage.
