Pramveer Singh of Punjab FC is the youngest player to start an ISL match

Mumbai: Pramveer Singh, a 17-year-old defender for Punjab FC (PFC), made history during the Shers’ 1-3 defeat against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on Thursday by becoming the youngest player to start an Indian Super League (ISL) game. At just 17 years and 189 days, he is 47 days older than the second-youngest player on the list, as per the ISL website. In the 83rd minute of the match, Ashish Pradhan was substituted for Singh.

Despite the loss, which marked Punjab FC’s third consecutive defeat, Pramveer had a strong performance, contributing with four interceptions, one block, one recovery, and a passing accuracy of 79%. He has now set the record as the youngest player to start an ISL match, surpassing Korou Singh of Kerala Blasters FC, who was the third-youngest player earlier this season.

With this debut, Pramveer hopes to secure more opportunities in upcoming matches as Punjab FC looks to regain its early-season form and move up from its current seventh position, tied with NorthEast United FC.

In the same match, Mohun Bagan Super Giant made a strong comeback, with Spanish defender Alberto Rodriguez scoring two crucial headers to seal the victory. Rodriguez also recorded impressive stats, completing 43 of 49 passes, making three interceptions, and clearing two balls.

Both teams are set to return to action in the new year: Mohun Bagan Super Giant will face Hyderabad FC at home on January 2, while Punjab FC will take on Kerala Blasters FC on January 5.
