Bareilly : As the holy observances of Muharram and Kanwar Yatra approach, the Bareilly district administration has ramped up preparations to ensure peace and public safety. In a high-level meeting held on Wednesday at the Collectorate Auditorium, District Magistrate Avinash Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya jointly reviewed the law and order arrangements for the sensitive period.
During the review, the DM issued a clear warning: “Any lapse in duty that leads to a breakdown in law and order will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against the responsible officer.” Special attention is being given to rural areas, where village heads, secretaries, revenue officers, and watchmen have been instructed to remain extra vigilant.
Enhanced Surveillance on Kanwar Routes
In preparation for the Kanwar Yatra, the administration has ordered strict regulations on street food vendors along the Yatra routes. The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has been directed to ensure all vendors display their names and official rate lists. Additionally, orders have been issued to shut down meat shops along the Yatra paths during the holy month of Sawan.
Power Department Put on Alert
The electricity department has been tasked with securing the overhead wires, poles, and transformers along the Muharram and Yatra procession routes. Work such as tightening loose wires and covering exposed parts with plastic sheets is being monitored closely. Local police station heads (SHOs) have been instructed to physically verify the work and submit status reports.

Infrastructure Improvements Under Review
Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Maurya informed the administration that out of 22 identified improvement points in the city, 11 have been completed, with work ongoing at the rest. In Faridpur Tehsil, the incomplete Gausganj-Dharampur roadwork has been ordered to be expedited by the Public Works Department (PWD).
The coordination meeting saw the presence of key officials including CDO Devyani, DFO Deeksha Bhandari, City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri, CMO Vishram Singh, and other ADMs, SDMs, COs, and SHOs.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and incident-free observance of both Muharram and the Kanwar Yatra. Any attempt to disturb communal harmony or law and order will be met with swift and decisive action, they warned.
