PM Modi Invites Sunita Williams to visit India in Heartfelt Letter

Expresses Pride, Wishes for Her Safe Return from ISS Mission

New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned an emotional letter to NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, inviting her to visit India after her return to Earth following a nine-month-long mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Williams and her crewmate Butch Wilmore are set to land back on Earth this Wednesday, concluding their extended stay in space.

In a letter dated March 1, PM Modi conveyed his heartfelt wishes for her safe return and expressed the collective pride of 1.4 billion Indians in her achievements. The letter was delivered to Williams through former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, as shared by Union Minister Jitendra Singh on social media platform X.

“Though you are thousands of miles away, you remain very close to our hearts,” PM Modi wrote. “India is praying for your good health and mission success. We eagerly await your visit to India—hosting one of our most talented daughters would be an honour.”

The Prime Minister also recalled his 2016 meeting with Sunita Williams and her late father Dr. Deepak Pandya during his U.S. visit. He mentioned a recent conversation with Massimino in New Delhi, where Williams’ name came up, prompting him to reach out personally.

Williams Touched by the Gesture

Union Minister Jitendra Singh noted that Sunita Williams was deeply moved by the Prime Minister’s message and expressed her gratitude to both PM Modi and the people of India. Modi also extended his warm regards to Williams’ mother Bonnie Pandya, who awaits her daughter’s return, and sent best wishes to Williams’ husband Michael Williams.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Sunita Williams’ perseverance and courage in the face of recent challenges continue to inspire millions, and her legacy is a matter of national pride.
