Baap Re Baap Play Highlights Social Responsibility
Lucknow: On the second day of the Divisional Theatre Festival, jointly organised by the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lucknow, and Sant Kabir Akademi, Maghar, the stage came alive with the successful presentation of the play “Baap Re Baap” at the Sant Kabir Akademi Auditorium. The play was written by renowned satirist K. P. Saxena and directed by Yogesh Pawar.
Centered on the vital theme of caring for parents and elderly family members, the play struck an emotional chord with the audience. The performers effectively conveyed the social message through powerful acting and well-timed humour. Notable performances were delivered by Shanu Siddiqui, Abhi Dhiman, Ranjit Kaur and Manju Brijnandan Sharma, who received warm appreciation.
Equally commendable roles were played by Rehan Shah, Kaviraj, Vimal Brijnandan Sharma, Sanjay Negi, Danish Asad, Rohit and Pravesh. Lighting design was handled by Sanjay Negi, music was composed by Rehan, while makeup was done by Ranjit and Pravesh. The performance by Crazy Team Committee, Saharanpur, drew a large turnout of students and local residents, making the evening memorable.
The production blended satire with sentiment, staying true to K. P. Saxena’s signature style of highlighting serious social concerns through humour and everyday situations. The narrative unfolded through relatable family dynamics, portraying how generational gaps, material aspirations and neglect can strain relationships within households. As the story progressed, moments of laughter gradually gave way to introspection, prompting viewers to reflect on their own responsibilities towards ageing parents.

Director Yogesh Pawar ensured tight pacing and natural dialogue delivery, allowing each character to shine while maintaining the overall thematic intensity. The stage design remained simple yet effective, focusing attention on the performers and the emotional weight of the scenes. Subtle lighting transitions enhanced key dramatic moments, while background music added depth without overpowering the dialogue.
The audience responded with repeated applause, particularly during emotionally charged sequences that underscored the importance of empathy, gratitude and familial duty. Many students present described the play as both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Organisers from the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi and Sant Kabir Akademi appreciated the enthusiastic participation and reiterated their commitment to promoting meaningful theatre across the region. The Divisional Theatre Festival continues to serve as a vibrant platform for cultural expression, nurturing artistic talent while addressing relevant social themes.
