Plans afoot to breathe new life into closed single screen cinema halls

Lucknow: The closed cinema halls in Uttar Pradesh will once again become lively. CM Yogi has given instructions to prepare a grant scheme for the re-operation of closed cinema halls, construction of multiplexes in districts without multiplexes and construction of single screen cinema halls. The CM gave these instructions in a meeting with the officials of the State Tax Department.

He said that cinema has a big role in the main means of entertainment for the general public. With the changing technology in the new era, the old cinema halls with single screens in the state have either closed or their financial condition is not good. An incentive scheme should be brought by the state government to revive such cinema halls. It will also be useful from the point of view of investment and employment generation.

He (CM Yogi) said that the scheme should be such that in place of closed or operating cinema halls, construction of commercial complexes and low capacity cinema halls is encouraged and closed cinema halls are encouraged to be re-operated in the same condition. Concession should be given by adopting a practical approach in the condition of minimum number of seats prescribed for cinema halls.

The Chief Minister said that there are no multiplexes in 39 districts of the state, while there are 10 districts where there are no single screen or multiplex cinema halls. Make such provisions in the new scheme that investors are encouraged to build multiplexes as well. Like investment promotion programs, the government will also give grants to these. In the districts where there are already multiplexes, if investors interested in new multiplexes come there, then there will be provision of grants for them as well. The Chief Minister directed the State Tax Department to prepare a plan soon by communicating with the investors and other stakeholders of the concerned sector.
