Petrol pump owners amp up No Helmet, No Fuel campaign

Shahjahanpur: A campaign titled “No Helmet, No Fuel” has been launched at petrol pumps across Uttar Pradesh to increase public awareness about road safety. As part of this initiative, petrol pump owners have been requested to refuse fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets and to educate them on the importance of wearing one.

The campaign, under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police, City Traffic Officer, ARTO, and Traffic In-Charge of Shahjahanpur district, involved thorough checking and awareness drives at all petrol pumps. The goal is to reduce road accidents.

Traffic police informed petrol pump staff and vehicle owners about the government’s orders and urged strict compliance. They specifically appealed to pump workers not to provide fuel to two-wheeler riders without helmets, emphasizing that wearing an ISI-standard helmet is mandatory for both the rider and pillion passenger. They highlighted that this small precaution can be life-saving in serious accidents.

As part of the awareness drive, citizens were informed that under the “No Helmet, No Fuel” rule, non-compliant two-wheeler riders will not receive fuel and will face penalties under Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The Traffic In-charge stated that the campaign’s success depends on public cooperation. He clarified, “Our goal is not to scare people, but to make them understand. A helmet is not just a safety device; it is a responsibility towards your loved ones. This campaign is being run for your safety, to reduce road accidents, and to increase safety awareness among the public.” To ensure strict adherence to government directives, police officers are being deployed at most petrol pumps in the city.

The traffic police appeal to citizens to fully cooperate with this campaign and to always wear an ISI-standard helmet while riding to ensure their safety and that of their passengers.
