Patriotic Play ‘Shaheed’ Staged Successfully on Kargil Vijay Diwas in Lucknow

Lucknow: On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the patriotic theatrical production Shaheed was successfully staged at the R.P.S. Inter College auditorium in Rajajipuram, Lucknow. The event was organized by Madad Educational and Welfare Society in collaboration with the Directorate of Culture, Uttar Pradesh.

Penned by playwright Mohit Yadav, Shaheed was directed by Nisha Begum, a seasoned theatre director known for her work in socially driven productions. The programme was coordinated by Mohd. Mustaqeem Salmani, President of the organizing society.

The play vividly portrayed the events of the 1999 Kargil War, where Pakistani troops infiltrated Indian territory and occupied strategic peaks. It showcased the bravery and tactical brilliance of the Indian Army during Operation Vijay, which resulted in a resounding victory. While the triumph is celebrated each year on July 26 as Kargil Vijay Diwas, the production paid special tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives during the conflict.

Through powerful performances, Shaheed highlighted the emotional trauma and resilience of the families left behind—parents who lost sons, women who became widows, and families whose futures were darkened forever. The play delved into the inner strength of these families as they continue to cherish memories and strive to rebuild their lives despite irreparable loss.

Director Nisha Begum emphasized the spirit of unity in diversity, calling it the defining strength of India. “Despite different religions, castes, languages, and cultures, we stand as one nation. This harmony must always be protected and nurtured. I create theatre to promote social harmony and reflect on the lessons of our history,” she said.

The cast delivered moving performances, with Aditya Srivastava, Arpit Srivastava, Sachin Kumar Shakya, Pallavi Jaiswal, Mustaqeem Salmani, and Shazeb Khan playing key roles in bringing the narrative to life. Their portrayal left the audience deeply moved and inspired by the courage of the Indian armed forces and the strength of their families.

The event was a poignant reminder of the cost of freedom and the unbreakable spirit of the Indian people.
