One must aspire for a TB free India says U.P. Governor

Lucknow: The annual general meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society Uttar Pradesh State Branch was held at Raj Bhawan under the chairmanship of the Governor of the state, Anandiben Patel.

While felicitating the District Magistrates who had shown excellent performance in the membership drive for the Red Cross Society, the Governor said in her address that in case of disaster, the Red Cross Society should ensure advance assistance and availability of essential ration material to the affected villages, so that timely assistance can reach the disaster victims.

Appreciating the work being done by the organization in the field of blood donation, she said that blood donation can save someone’s life, hence awareness should be spread by motivating people to donate maximum units of blood in the camps organized by the organization.

She said that awareness camps for blood donation should be organized in universities and colleges. She suggested that the organization should do such work, which makes it possible to completely solve any problem.

The District Magistrates who were honoured  included District Magistrate Pilibhit  Pulkit Khare, District Magistrate Bahraich  Dinesh Chandra, District Magistrate Bulandshahr  Chandra Prakash Singh, Chief Development Officer Meerut as representative of District Magistrate Meerut  Deepak Meena, Dr. Ajay Kumar as representative of District Magistrate Varanasi, Kaushal Raj Sharma, District Magistrate Gonda, Dr. Ujjwal Kumar, Dr. Sanjay Tripathi as representative of District Magistrate Ghazipur  Mangala Prasad Singh, District Magistrate Azamgarh  Vishal Bhardwaj etc.

Along with this, District Magistrate Baghpat  Jitendra Pratap Singh, District Magistrate Ballia  Ravindra Kumar, District Magistrate Shravasti  Neha Prakash, District Magistrate Jaunpur  Ravindra Kumar Mandar, then District Magistrate Deoria  Akhand Pratap Singh were honoured with the Excellent Service Medal.

The Governor said that there is a need to set a target of making every village of every district TB free. On this occasion, the Governor directed to visit Anganwadis and make pregnant women aware about 100% institutional delivery, to run awareness campaigns about feeding by gynecologist doctors at university and college level and to maintain a diary with a list of blood donors in blood donation camps. The Governor directed to establish Red Cross in all government and private medical colleges and other universities. During the meeting, representatives of various districts of the Red Cross organization present also shared their experiences and suggestions.

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Chairman of Red Cross State Branch Uttar Pradesh,  Brajesh Pathak  talked about increasing the membership along with the activity of the organization in all the districts. He said that the organization does effective work promptly along with providing help in disaster and normal situation.

She said that Red Cross Committee has been formed in 64 districts and in 2023-24, 3018 units of blood have been made available to the government blood bank, she also talked about training students in various schools for first aid.

During the detailed discussion on various agendas of the committee in the meeting, the proceedings and compliance report of the Annual General Meeting of 31 October 2022, presentation of annual report of the previous year 2023-24, presentation of audited annual accounts for the year 2023-24, presentation and consideration of budget estimates for the year 2023-24 and appointment of statutory auditor for the coming year for the purpose of compilation and certification of accounts etc. were considered and approved by the members.

In the meeting, the work being done by the Red Cross Committee in various districts in various fields such as health, leprosy prevention, blood donation, first aid, TV free India, malnutrition, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was discussed in detail and the report was presented before the Governor.

Future plans and strategies of the Red Cross were also discussed in the meeting. In the program, 100 sets of books for school children were presented to the Governor by the Red Cross Society and the foundation stone of the Red Cross Blood Bank was laid by the Governor by pressing the button and the booklet “Red Cross Ke Badhte Kadam Uttar Pradesh Mein” was also released.

During the program, active organizations involved in various works of the Red Cross organization were honored for their excellent performance. In this sequence, Marwadi Yuva Manch and Ram Avtar Kedia Charitable Trust from Deoria were honored by the Governor. 28 members of Red Cross from various districts were also honored for Uttam Seva Medal in the program.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor Dr. Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, Special Executive Officer Education Dr. Pankaj L. Johny, Vice President of Indian Red Cross Committee Uttar Pradesh State Branch,  Akhilendra Shahi, General Secretary Dr. Himabindu Nayak, Treasurer Arun Kumar Singh and officials from various districts of Red Cross State Branch Uttar Pradesh etc. were present.
