On Raksha Bandhan, Children Tie Rakhis to Sanjay Singh, Plead to Save Their School

Sultanpur – In a heart-touching scene on Raksha Bandhan, children of Sarai Naurang Primary School in Jayasinhpur Assembly constituency tied rakhis on the wrist of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, appealing to him to save their school from closure. The Uttar Pradesh government had recently shut down the institution, leaving dozens of children without nearby access to education.

One young student, tying a rakhi on Singh’s wrist, made an emotional request: “Bade bhaiya, please save our school.” Moved by the children’s plea, Singh issued a one-week ultimatum to the state government — reopen the school immediately or face a state-wide agitation by AAP.

“The Aam Aadmi Party will not allow even a single government school in Uttar Pradesh to be shut down,” Singh declared. He noted that public pressure had already forced the government to relax its previous merger policy by introducing a 1-kilometre distance limit and a minimum of 50 students per school. However, he said, Sarai Naurang Primary School was merged with another school 1.5 km away, violating the government’s own revised rules.

“This decision is a deliberate conspiracy to deprive poor, Dalit, backward, and minority children of education,” Singh alleged, accusing the Yogi Adityanath government of dismantling public education. “Until every child in the state has access to education, our struggle will continue.”

Citing examples from Delhi and Punjab, Singh said AAP governments had proved that government schools could be upgraded to international standards, while the UP government was “hell-bent on shutting them down.”

The event was attended by several AAP leaders, including State Chief Spokesperson and Jayasinhpur In-charge Vanshraj Dubey, District President Suresh Chandra, Assembly President Brajesh Singh, and other local party functionaries.
