Bhubaneswar : In response to a recent outbreak of diarrhoea in Odisha’s Jajpur district, the state’s Health and Family Welfare Department has launched an urgent containment campaign. So far, the outbreak has claimed three lives and affected hundreds more.
Reacting swiftly to the growing number of cases, State Health Secretary Ashwathy S. announced the deployment of a high-level, multi-disciplinary team to Jajpur. The team, which includes doctors, microbiologists, and food safety officers, has begun investigating the root cause of the outbreak.
To support treatment efforts, additional medical personnel have been dispatched to the district headquarters hospital and nearby health centres. Director of Public Health Services, Dr. Neelakantha Mishra, has also arrived in the region to coordinate local response teams and ensure that affected communities receive prompt care.
According to an official statement, multiple field teams are currently operating across several affected blocks, including Dharmashala, Vyasanagar Municipality, Danagadi, Rasulpur, and Korei. Both state and district-level authorities are closely monitoring the evolving situation.
Rapid response units have been mobilized to manage cases swiftly and prevent further spread. These teams are conducting house-to-house checks and ensuring access to safe drinking water and essential medication.
Health officials have urged residents to take preventive steps—avoid street food, drink only boiled or purified water, and maintain personal hygiene. Over 200 people have been hospitalized in the past two days, with fatalities reported from Jajpur and neighboring Keonjhar district.
Authorities are on alert and working round-the-clock to bring the outbreak under control and safeguard public health.
