Lucknow: A special awareness programme on nuclear energy was organised on Thursday at the SR Group of Institutions, BKT, where distinguished scientists from the Indian Nuclear Society (INS), Mumbai, interacted with students and shared crucial scientific insights related to nuclear energy.
Held at the Vikram Sarabhai Auditorium of the institution, the programme aimed to familiarise students with the importance of nuclear energy, its future potential, and the scientific principles behind its safe and effective use.
Dr. Rishikesh Mishra, senior INS member and retired Associate Director & Distinguished Scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai, delivered the keynote address. He highlighted the visionary leadership of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, India’s three-stage nuclear programme, and the nation’s strides towards becoming a global leader in nuclear science. Dr. Mishra also spoke about India’s ancient scientific heritage, modern research advancements, and efforts to achieve self-reliance in nuclear technology.
Following this, A.K. Sinha, retired Associate Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) and an eminent scientist, offered motivational guidance to students on success strategies, exam preparation, teamwork, management skills, time management, and stress control.
Addressing the gathering, Amritesh Srivastava, Deputy General Manager (HR–S), NPCIL Mumbai, emphasised that nuclear energy is the energy of the future—clean, green, safe, and cost-efficient. He informed students about the vast career opportunities emerging in the nuclear sector and encouraged them to apply for NPCIL’s upcoming recruitment drives.
Dr. Yojana Singh, retired Senior Scientist from the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology (BRIT), enlightened students about the use of radio-pharmaceuticals, isotopes, nucleotides, gamma chambers, and radiography technology in medicine, agriculture, and industry.
F. Vikas Kumar, Scientific Officer at BARC, elaborated on nuclear agriculture, radiation technology in food processing, and mutation-breeding techniques used to develop high-yield, aromatic rice varieties that significantly boost farmers’ productivity.

Dr. Satyavati Deswal, Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, discussed the transformative role of nuclear energy in medical diagnosis and treatment, particularly in oncology, noting that nuclear techniques will revolutionise healthcare in the coming years.
Programme coordinator and INS Treasurer O.P. Rai said that INS has been conducting similar awareness programmes across the country to help students and the public understand the benefits, scientific aspects, and future scope of nuclear energy.
Around 800 students and teachers participated in the scientific session, gaining insights into current nuclear applications, ongoing research, future prospects, and career avenues.
The event was also attended by SR International’s Executive Director Monica, Director Placement Kaushal, Admin Officer S.S. Tomar, Proctor Shashank, Convener Disha, Co-convener Apoorva, and other institutional officials.
A poster competition on nuclear energy was organised by Shubhendu, in which students participated enthusiastically. Winners were felicitated by the Anushakti team.
