NTPC Rihand’s 44th Foundation Day Celebrations Celebrated with Great Joy

Sonebhadra: On the NTPC Rihand’s 44th Foundation Day, various events were organized at the project premises. The events were inaugurated by Chief General Manager and Project Head (Rihand),  Sanjay Asati, by hoisting the NTPC flag in the administrative building.

In his address on this occasion, Chief Guest  Sanjay Asati stated that the foundation stone of Rihand Stage-I was laid on February 9, 1983, with the groundbreaking ceremony, and commercial operation was declared in March 1988. Starting with an initial capacity of 500 MW, the project has now grown to a 3,000 MW super thermal power project, becoming the largest in Uttar Pradesh. He informed that an additional 20 MW of solar-based capacity is currently under construction at Rihand.

Asati stated that NTPC Rihand has been a leader among high-performing stations. In the 2025-26 financial year, the project generated 18,494.04 million units of electricity with a plant load factor (PLF) of 81.80 percent as of February 8, 2026. As of January 2026, NTPC Rihand ranked fourth among NTPC projects with a PLF of 81.97 percent.
NTPC Rihand’s commitment to environmental protection, he stated that 41,000 trees have been planted so far in the current financial year, and 9,000 Miyawaki plantations are proposed. NTPC has signed an MoU with the Forest Department for the upcoming financial year 2026-27 to plant 50,000 trees. Additionally, NTPC Rihand has safely disposed of approximately 30 metric tons of plastic waste and 130 metric tons of scrap insulation through TSDF.

Reflecting on social responsibilities, he stated that a total of 70 girls have been admitted free of charge to the DAV School located on the project campus under the GEM scheme, of which 60 are currently studying.

NTPC Rihand received the Gold Award in the 2024 NBEM Assessment for Business Excellence for its CSR and EMG departments. Furthermore, the Rihand Project has been honored with several prestigious awards for its outstanding performance in the areas of Operations, Safety, Environment, Human Resources, and CSR.

Asati stated that the achievements achieved by NTPC Rihand over the past 43 years are due to the invaluable contribution of its hardworking and dedicated employees. He commended the project’s active role in safety, health, environmental protection, cultural, and social activities.
