Lucknow: The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of the Faculty of Law at University of Lucknow organised a one-day awareness and social outreach programme in Rasoolpur Kayasth village as part of their ongoing seven-day special camp. The initiative marked the observance of International Unborn Child Day and aimed at promoting social awareness on critical issues related to maternal and child health.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Programme Officers Dr. Shashi Prabha Joshi and Dr. Chandra Shekhar Rai. Dr. S.K. Verma, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, was present as a special guest and encouraged the volunteers with his motivating words.
The day began with NSS volunteers arriving in the village and collectively singing the NSS song, creating an atmosphere of unity, service, and cooperation. This was followed by an awareness session, where volunteers discussed the significance of International Unborn Child Day and highlighted the importance of protecting the rights and well-being of unborn children.
During the session, villagers were sensitised about the harmful practice of sex selection and were urged to refrain from prenatal diagnostic misuse for gender determination. Volunteers emphasized the need for ethical awareness and social responsibility in safeguarding the dignity and life of unborn children.
As part of the outreach activity, NSS volunteers conducted a field visit and door-to-door survey across the village. They interacted with residents, shared informative insights about maternal health, and reinforced the message of preventing gender-based discrimination before birth. The volunteers also informed villagers about an upcoming free health camp scheduled for March 27 and encouraged them to participate in large numbers.

Following the awareness drive, a series of sports and recreational activities were organised to foster community engagement and teamwork among volunteers. NSS participants enthusiastically took part in these activities, reflecting the spirit of active participation and social bonding.
The programme concluded with the distribution of refreshments among participants, after which the volunteers dispersed for the day.
The initiative served as a meaningful step towards strengthening social awareness, promoting ethical values, and encouraging community participation. It also reflected the commitment of NSS volunteers from Lucknow University to contribute actively towards social reform and public welfare.
