Notorious Thief Lovkush Kashyap Arrested in Lucknow, Carried ₹15,000 Reward

Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, the Mahigawa Police Station team in Uttar Pradesh has arrested 24-year-old Lovkush Kashyap, a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of ₹15,000. The accused had been on the run for several months and was wanted in multiple theft cases, including the theft of transformer oil and components from a power substation.

Background of the Case

On February 24, 2025, Sanjay Yadav, Junior Engineer at the 33/11 KV power substation in Sadhanamau, filed a complaint at Malihabad Police Station. He reported the theft of oil and critical parts from a 250 KVA transformer located in the village of Paharpur. A case (FIR No. 27/2025) was registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Arrest Operation

With Lovkush evading arrest for months, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) announced a cash reward of ₹15,000 on May 12 for any information leading to his capture. Acting on a confidential tip-off received on May 14, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Neelendra Pratap and directed by Station Officer Shivmangal Singh conducted a raid near Carrier Chauraha on IIM Road. The accused was apprehended on the spot wearing a black shirt and carrying a white plastic container.

Items Recovered

  • 4–5 litres of stolen transformer oil (in a white container)

  • ₹1,100 in cash

Lovkush was presented before a magistrate on May 15, 2025. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing transformer oil, copper wires, and other components from transformers installed in rural areas, which he sold for financial gain. He also admitted involvement in motorcycle theft.

Lovkush Kashyap has a lengthy criminal record, with a total of six cases registered against him in different police stations across Lucknow district, including:

Police stated that his arrest marks a significant blow to the theft network targeting public infrastructure in rural Uttar Pradesh.
