Mumbai: Sony SAB’s much-loved show Itti Si Khushi continues to strike an emotional chord with viewers by portraying everyday relationships with honesty and depth. At the heart of the story is Anvita, played by Sumbul Touqeer Khan, a woman who has quietly carried responsibilities beyond her age. From caring for her family to navigating marriage with patience and resilience, Anvita’s journey has always been about the small, unseen sacrifices that shape her life.
In the current phase of the show, viewers witness a powerful turning point as Anvita chooses self-respect over silence when she is slapped by her husband Sanjay (Rishi Saxena). In this conversation, Sumbul Touqeer Khan opens up about performing one of the most intense moments in the show and what Anvita’s stand truly represents.
The slap sequence was transformative for Anvita. What went through your mind while performing the scene?
That scene was almost nine minutes long and there were so many lines to remember. Usually, I like to rehearse my scenes properly, but this time I didn’t. We rehearsed it only twice. I just decided to perform it the way I was feeling in that moment. I wasn’t thinking about the camera or how it would look; I just stayed in the emotion and let it happen naturally.
Instead of staying silent, Anvita chooses to speak up and walk away. What do you think this decision says about her inner strength?
There are so many people who face this kind of abuse and are expected to tolerate it, especially when it comes from a partner, irrespective of the gender. But no one has the right to hurt you, not even someone you love.
This track highlights a reality many people face. Why do you think it’s important for such moments to be shown with sensitivity on television?
I think it’s important to acknowledge that this track is informative. What we’re showing needs to be watched not just by women, but by men as well. Abuse is never right, no matter what the situation and television has the power to start those conversations.

Do you feel Anvita’s journey will resonate with people who are struggling to choose self-respect over emotional dependence?
Yes, definitely. Anvita has always been independent even during her marriage. She was never emotionally or financially dependent. Whether you’re married, single, or in a relationship, I strongly believe independence is very important. When you’re strong within yourself, you’re in a better position to stand up for what’s right.
As an actor, were there any personal challenges in performing such an intense scene?
This scene felt very different from the emotional scenes we usually shoot. I didn’t approach it technically or over-plan it. I just wanted it to feel honest. I allowed myself to react naturally, the way I felt in that moment. It was emotionally heavy, but that honesty is what made it truthful.
What do you hope audiences take away from Anvita’s stand in this phase of Itti Si Khushi?
I really hope people understand that what Anvita did was right. Even today, there are situations where violence is brushed aside or treated as normal, especially within marriage. I hope this track makes people realise that no one has the right to hurt you physically, not even someone you love. That’s the message I hope viewers take away from this phase.
