“No Helmet, No Fuel” Campaign Flouted Openly in Jalaun

Jalaun– The Uttar Pradesh government’s “No Helmet, No Fuel” campaign, aimed at ensuring road safety, is being openly violated in Jalaun district’s headquarters, Orai. Despite strict government directives, both common citizens and even police personnel are ignoring the rules.

The campaign, which runs from September 1 to September 30 across the state, makes it mandatory for two-wheeler riders to wear helmets in order to refuel at petrol pumps. The initiative was introduced with the belief that it would encourage helmet usage and reduce road accidents. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had urged citizens to take the drive seriously, stressing that road safety is everyone’s responsibility and even minor negligence can lead to major tragedies.

Fuel station operators were given clear orders not to supply petrol or diesel to those without helmets, while the Transport Department and police were tasked with monitoring compliance.

However, in Orai, the ground reality paints a different picture. Reports suggest that petrol pumps continue to serve fuel to helmetless riders, with enforcement remaining lax. Shockingly, even police personnel have been spotted flouting the rules by refueling their vehicles without helmets. This disregard by law enforcers raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the campaign.

Local residents have expressed concern, saying that if the police themselves fail to comply, expecting citizens to follow becomes difficult. While the “No Helmet, No Fuel” initiative is seen as a commendable step towards road safety, lack of enforcement and negligence by authorities are undermining its very purpose in Jalaun.
