(Mumbai): Jasprit Bumrah was notably absent from the updated India squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting February 6 in Nagpur. Bumrah, initially included in the squad, was removed due to a back injury sustained during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His fitness will be assessed soon, with a decision about his participation in the Champions Trophy still pending.
While Bumrah’s absence has sparked curiosity, India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill defended the team’s performance after their recent 1-3 defeat to Australia in the Test series. He emphasized that one poor series does not define the team, pointing to past successes, including a World Cup win and reaching another World Cup final.
Gill also highlighted Rohit Sharma’s excellent form in white-ball cricket, which has been crucial in India’s recent success, particularly during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Despite some recent struggles, Gill believes Rohit’s attacking approach has been instrumental in India’s successes in the format.
