Navratri Appointments Signal Women Empowerment Push: CM Yogi Adityanath Distributes 1,228 Nursing Job Letters in Lucknow

Lucknow: In a significant boost to the healthcare workforce and women’s empowerment, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday distributed appointment letters to 1,228 newly selected nursing officers at a event held in Lok Bhavan. Calling the large-scale recruitment during the auspicious festival of Navratri a “positive signal,” the Chief Minister emphasized the growing role of daughters in nation-building.

Out of the total recruits, 1,097 are women and 131 are men, underlining a strong trend toward increased female participation in the healthcare sector. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that nursing professionals from India are in high demand globally, particularly in countries like Japan and Germany, where Indian nurses are respected for their skills and dedication. He encouraged the newly appointed officers to enhance their career prospects by pursuing language training alongside professional qualifications.

“The demand for nursing professionals is not limited to India but extends across the world. Our nurses are highly regarded internationally. With additional language skills, they can access better opportunities abroad,” he said.

Healthcare Transformation in Uttar Pradesh

Highlighting the transformation in the state’s healthcare system, the Chief Minister noted that eastern Uttar Pradesh was once plagued by poor medical infrastructure and recurrent outbreaks of diseases such as encephalitis and dengue. However, sustained reforms have significantly improved healthcare delivery.

He pointed out that several long-defunct ANM and GNM training centers have been revived, including 35 ANM centers that are now operational again. Additionally, construction of 31 new nursing colleges is underway, strengthening the pipeline of trained healthcare professionals.

The Chief Minister stressed that while doctors lead the healthcare system, nursing staff form its backbone. “Equal emphasis is being placed on nursing and paramedical education to ensure a robust healthcare framework,” he added.

Digital Health and Telemedicine Expansion

The state has also made rapid strides in healthcare digitization. Under universal health coverage initiatives, approximately 9.25 crore people have been brought under the system, while over 14.28 crore digital health IDs have been issued.

To improve accessibility in rural areas, telemedicine and tele-consultation services have been rolled out at 976 Community Health Centres (CHCs). Real-time disease surveillance systems have also been implemented to enhance monitoring and response capabilities.

Medical Education and Infrastructure Growth

The government’s “One District, One Medical College” initiative is gaining momentum, with medical colleges being established across districts. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University is working to standardize medical education across institutions.

The state has witnessed a sharp increase in medical education capacity:

  • MBBS seats have risen from 5,390 to 12,700
  • PG seats have expanded from 1,221 to 5,056
  • Nursing seats have increased by 7,000
  • Paramedical seats have grown by 2,000

Premier institutions such as Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, King George’s Medical University, and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences are expanding advanced treatment facilities, including transplant services, pediatric care, and tele-ICU networks.

Notably, King George’s Medical University secured the 8th rank in the 2025 NIRF rankings among medical universities, further boosting the state’s academic reputation.

Women Empowerment and Employment Drive

Calling the appointment drive a milestone, the Chief Minister said that distributing job letters to a large number of women during Navratri symbolizes empowerment and societal progress. He cited an example of a newly selected candidate who received her appointment letter just after Eid, describing it as a special gift for her family.

He also urged nursing students to learn multiple Indian languages such as Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali to expand employment opportunities both within India and abroad.

Transparent Recruitment and Record Job Creation

Reiterating the government’s commitment to transparency, the Chief Minister stated that the recruitment process was conducted in a fair and merit-based manner, strictly adhering to reservation norms for all categories, including SC, ST, OBC, specially able, and ex-servicemen.

“In the past nine years, over 9 lakh government jobs have been provided in Uttar Pradesh, one of the highest figures for any state in India,” he said, adding that the process leaves no scope for favoritism or malpractice.

Dignitaries Present

The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State for Medical Education Kunwar Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, MLA Neeraj Bora, and senior officials including Amit Kumar Ghosh.

The large-scale recruitment of nursing officers not only strengthens Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare delivery system but also reflects a broader push toward inclusive growth, women empowerment, and global workforce readiness.
