New Delhi: Navneet Kumar Sehgal has resigned from the post of Chairman, Prasar Bharati, with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting accepting his resignation submitted on December 2. According to the official notification, he has been relieved with immediate effect under Section 7(6) of the Prasar Bharati Act, 1990.
A 1988-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Sehgal was appointed Chairman of Prasar Bharati on March 16, 2024. His decision marks an early conclusion to his tenure at India’s public service broadcaster, where he was engaged in strengthening institutional governance and steering long-term strategic initiatives.
Sehgal’s administrative career spans over 35 years across key assignments at both the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government. He earlier served as Chairman and CEO of the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority, leading the construction of the 302-km Agra–Lucknow Expressway in a record 22 months.
He also held prominent roles as Principal Secretary in departments such as Tourism and MSME, where he drove major state initiatives, including the flagship One District One Product (ODOP) programme. With over 15 years of experience in public communication, Sehgal played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s media outreach as Principal Secretary, Information.

His tenure also saw significant contributions in the energy sector, including the privatisation of power distribution in Agra and planning nearly 30,000 MW of additional power capacity for Uttar Pradesh. He additionally oversaw the DPR preparation for Lucknow Metro and was associated with major PPP projects and international collaborations.
After retiring from the IAS in July 2023 as Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Sehgal took over at Prasar Bharati the following year.
The government is expected to initiate the process of appointing his successor soon.
