Lucknow: National Youth Day was observed at the Ramakrishna Math auditorium in Nirala Nagar, Lucknow, on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda’s 163rd birth anniversary. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students of numerous schools in the city. A vibrant procession of students was held from the Reserve Police Line, passing through Swami Vivekananda Hospital, to the Ramakrishna Math, celebrating the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
National Youth Day was declared by the Government of India in 1985 to honor Swami Vivekananda’s birthday on January 12. Since then, Ramakrishna Math and Mission centers across the country have organized programs to mark this occasion.

The celebrations began with Vedic chants and a ceremonial lamp lighting by monks of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram, Lucknow. The inaugural song was performed by Swami Ishtakṛpānanda and other monks of the Math.
The chief guest, Prof. Dr. Vikram Singh, former DGP and Vice-Chancellor of Noida International University, addressed the gathering on the significance of National Youth Day. He urged young people to focus on building strong character and developing their personality, while following Swami Vivekananda’s teachings of selfless service, compassion, and respect for humanity.

Dr. Vivek Tangri, prominent thinker and President of Late Hanumanji Temple, Lucknow, highlighted the importance of character development for youth, emphasizing that it lays the foundation for a successful life.
The presidential address was delivered by Swami Muktinathananda Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Math, Lucknow. He stressed the importance of self-confidence, physical strength, mental focus, and a spirit of service to others for achieving success. Swami Muktinathananda also encouraged students to draw inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s life and teachings to channel their thoughts in the right direction.
The program concluded in the evening with a devotional Shivnam Sankirtan following the Sandhya Aarti.
