‘Namo Van’ to Be Developed on Banks of Gomti River in Lucknow

Lucknow |In a significant step towards urban green development, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has announced plans to develop ‘Namo Van’ along the banks of the Gomti River. The initiative is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to establish “Namo Van” parks across cities.

On Thursday, Mayor Sushma Kharakwal inspected the identified site near Ghailla, accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Arvind Kumar Rao.

13.41 acres, ₹15 crore project

The eco-park will be built on 13.41 acres of land at an estimated cost of ₹15 crore. Its design will focus on creating a habitat beneficial for birds, butterflies, insects, and humans alike, blending natural beauty with recreational and educational facilities.

Key attractions of ‘Namo Van’

  • Dense tree cover and bamboo structures
  • A year-round Butterfly Garden
  • Water body and open gym
  • Bird-friendly garden
  • Cafeteria and environmental education center
  • Dedicated spaces to teach children and visitors about plants and ecological cycles

One of the standout features will be a natural cafeteria, designed within grass-covered landscapes, offering seating made of grass structures. Visitors will experience dining in a natural setting with food items prepared from local and organic produce.

Miyawaki method plantation

The park will be developed using the modern Miyawaki method, with nearly 1,31,250 saplings to be planted, including long-lasting and eco-friendly species. A jogging track will also be created to encourage fitness activities amid lush greenery.

Boost to environment and tourism

Officials stated that ‘Namo Van’ will not only contribute to environmental conservation but also serve as a recreational and educational hub for residents, children, and tourists. It is expected to significantly boost eco-tourism in Lucknow while promoting awareness about sustainability.
