Musk opens multiple fronts against Donald Trump

New York – Despite strong criticism and ultimately a resignation from Elon Musk, a key figure in Donald Trump’s initial rise to power, the White House remains unperturbed by his recent condemnations. Musk, formerly serving on the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), openly opposed the Trump administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill” and subsequently stepped down from his position. Nevertheless, the bill has now received approval from the United States Congress. In response, Musk has leveled serious accusations against the supporting lawmakers, alleging that some are intent on bankrupting the US, despite knowing the bill is detrimental.

Elon Musk, a former DOGE in the Trump administration, recently voiced his strong disapproval of President Donald Trump’s new spending legislation, dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Despite knowing this would be publicly contentious, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to denounce the bill as “objectionable” and “full of unnecessary spending.” He lambasted the lawmakers who voted in favor of it, stating, “Those who voted for it should be ashamed. You all know very well that you did wrong. I am sorry, but I can no longer tolerate it. Shame on those who voted for it.” However, the White House largely shrugged off Musk’s criticism. Press Secretary Carolina Levitt stated during a briefing that “the President already knows Elon Musk’s stance on this bill. This does not change the President’s opinion. It is a big beautiful bill, and he stands by it.”

Musk’s opposition to the “Big Beautiful Bill” wasn’t confined to social media. In a news channel interview, he elaborated on his disagreement and issued a stark warning. Musk asserted that the legislation would inflate the already massive budget deficit by an additional $2.5 trillion. He went further, accusing Congress of “bankrupting America.” This isn’t the first time Musk has critiqued the bill. Republican fiscal conservatives argue that it could push the country towards insolvency, while independent analysts have cautioned that it could escalate the deficit by up to $4 trillion over the next decade.

It’s worth noting that US President Donald Trump had publicly lauded the “Big Beautiful Bill” during a press conference on May 30, describing it as an “incredible bill” that “cuts your deficit.” Trump also suggested he would favor significant tax cuts. However, Musk, who was present at that press conference, did not voice his opposition to the bill at that time.
