MP Open School Curriculum to Be Updated Under New Education Policy

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh State Open School Education Board (MPSOS) is set for a major academic overhaul as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In a one-day workshop jointly organised by MPSOS and Educate Girls in Bhopal, senior officials, subject experts, and academic leaders came together to review the existing curriculum and examination framework and propose necessary reforms for open-school learners.

The workshop was attended by MPSOS Director Ravindra Kumar Singh, Assistant Directors Sachchidanand Prasad (Academic Division), Ram Vaidya (Examination Division), and Ramakant Tiwari (EFA School). A total of 25 participants, including education specialists, took part in the deliberations.

The discussions primarily focused on aligning the open-school curriculum with NEP 2020, the National Curriculum Framework (NCF 2023), and NCERT guidelines. Experts highlighted that the curriculum has not been updated for a considerable time, making it necessary to simplify and modernize it while ensuring that it remains flexible and accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds, especially those enrolled in alternative and distance education.

MPSOS Director Ravindra Kumar Singh emphasised the urgent need for curriculum revision. “It has been a long time since the curriculum was updated. We must now think about school drop-out children and restructure the curriculum keeping their needs in mind,” he said.

Arvind Kumar, Content Development Lead at Educate Girls, underscored the importance of simplifying learning material for better comprehension and accessibility. The workshop aimed to create a roadmap for reviewing and modernising the MPSOS curriculum to ensure that learning outcomes are achievable for open-school students.

Subject experts were assigned the responsibility of reviewing the syllabus of various disciplines. They recommended simplifying NIOS-based material, making it more concise, and ensuring timely availability of textbooks to students. Officials also stressed the importance of providing a strong, inclusive, and learner-friendly curriculum.

Director Singh appreciated all suggestions and instructed the concerned departments to initiate the required steps.
According to data shared during the event, nearly 17,000 students appeared for the MPSOS examinations held last year (June and December cycles). This year, more than 18,000 candidates are expected to take the exams, indicating rising awareness and acceptance of open schooling in the state.

The workshop concluded with a shared consensus on the need for comprehensive reform, modernization, and NEP-aligned restructuring of both the curriculum and the examination pattern, reaffirming MPSOS’s commitment to providing quality education to every learner.
