Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly has secured a significant milestone in the prestigious SCImago Institutions Rankings 2026, demonstrating its growing academic and research capabilities on the global stage. According to the latest rankings, the university has been placed 5th in Uttar Pradesh, 274th in India among 500 participating institutions, and 8,813th globally.
The achievement reflects the institution’s continuous efforts to strengthen research, innovation, and academic excellence. University officials stated that the recognition has been possible under the guidance of Anandiben Patel, who serves as the Chancellor, along with the support of Raj Bhavan officials and the leadership of Vice-Chancellor K. P. Singh.
According to the university administration, the ranking is the result of the collective efforts of faculty members, researchers, students, and staff who have consistently worked to enhance the quality of research and promote innovation. Their collaborative commitment has helped the university improve its academic output and global visibility.
The ranking also highlights the university’s percentile scores across different parameters. In the overall percentile, the university achieved the 82nd percentile, reflecting strong academic performance and research activities. In the research category, it secured the 71st percentile, indicating steady growth in scholarly publications, citation impact, and academic productivity.
In the area of innovation, the university performed even more strongly, achieving the 89th percentile. This performance highlights increasing contributions in technology transfer, patents, applied research, and collaborations with industries. Meanwhile, in the societal impact category, the university received the 59th percentile, showcasing its active engagement in community outreach, public initiatives, and socially relevant programs.
The SCImago Institutions Rankings evaluates academic and research institutions worldwide using a composite indicator that measures three primary dimensions: research (50 percent), innovation (30 percent), and societal impact (20 percent). The evaluation is based on internationally recognized bibliometric data and web performance indicators, providing a comprehensive assessment of the real academic and social influence of institutions.
University authorities noted that this achievement reflects ongoing initiatives to enhance research quality, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and build a strong innovation-driven ecosystem. Several research projects, industry–academia partnerships, and innovation activities are being actively encouraged at the university, which has contributed positively to its international standing.
