Mission Shakti Empowering Women to Lead Change in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Women empowerment in Uttar Pradesh is undergoing a transformation under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s flagship Mission Shakti campaign. The initiative has instilled a renewed sense of security, dignity, and self-reliance among women, enabling them to take on leadership and decisive roles in society.

A shining example comes from Ramgarh village in Chandauli district, where Anganwadi worker Sujata Kushwaha has become a beacon of change. Her dedication and perseverance helped save the life of young Adarsh, who was battling severe malnutrition.

When Sujata repeatedly visited the family’s home and urged the parents to seek proper care, she faced resistance. But her persistence paid off. She ensured Adarsh was brought to the Anganwadi centre, monitored his weight and height, facilitated health check-ups during VHND sessions, and provided essential medicines. She also guided the family on nutrition, hygiene, and safe drinking water, even offering homemade peanut powder to improve the child’s diet. Over weeks of follow-ups and counseling, Adarsh’s health improved—he regained weight, grew taller, and began to smile and play again.

Sujata’s efforts extended beyond one family, spreading awareness across the village about the importance of nutrition and hygiene. “People didn’t always listen, but I never gave up. Today when I see children playing happily, I feel my hard work has succeeded,” she said.

Mission Shakti is not just about ensuring women’s safety and dignity—it is empowering them to drive social change. By equipping women like Sujata with responsibility and confidence, the campaign is transforming communities. As women step into leadership roles, they are becoming the pivot of progress, ensuring a healthier and brighter future for generations to come.
