Minister A.K. Sharma Joins International Yoga Day Celebrations in Jaunpur, Advocates Yoga as a Way of Life

Jaunpur/Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma marked the 11th International Yoga Day with a resounding call for integrating yoga into daily life, emphasizing its holistic benefits. Visiting his designated district Jaunpur, the minister led the celebrations at the historic Shahi Qila, participating as the chief guest under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”

The day began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting at 6:00 AM, followed by a large-scale yoga session attended by thousands — including local dignitaries, officials, youth, and students. Minister Sharma joined the participants in performing yoga, underscoring the ancient practice’s vital role in achieving physical fitness, mental peace, and spiritual elevation.

“Yoga is not merely a form of exercise, it is a powerful tool that connects the soul with the supreme,” he said. “It is the priceless heritage of Indian culture, nurtured by sages, monks, and yogis over thousands of years.”

The minister tuned in to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inspirational address, noting his pivotal role in taking yoga to the global stage. Sharma recalled how June 21 was officially declared International Yoga Day by the United Nations in 2014, thanks to PM Modi’s vision and diplomatic efforts.

He urged citizens to make yoga a permanent part of their lifestyle and inspire others to do the same, reinforcing the message of wellness and unity. “Yoga not only promotes long life but teaches the art of living healthily,” he said.

Extending heartfelt greetings to the people of India and Uttar Pradesh, Sharma praised yoga as a spiritual force that strengthens the individual and the nation. His arrival in Jaunpur was warmly welcomed by local MLA Ramesh Mishra, party workers, and supporters who lined the route to greet him with enthusiasm and respect.

The event in Jaunpur stood as a testament to the growing grassroots embrace of yoga, echoing the national sentiment for health, heritage, and harmony.
