Metro Expansion Plans Unveiled for Lucknow, Kanpur, and Agra

Lucknow – The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has announced comprehensive plans to expand metro services in the cities of Lucknow, Kanpur, and Agra, aiming to enhance urban mobility over the next two decades.

Lucknow: Nine New Corridors Proposed

In the state capital, Lucknow, the proposal includes the development of nine new metro corridors, extending the network by approximately 139.4 kilometers. These expansions are designed to improve connectivity across various parts of the city, addressing the growing transportation needs of its residents.

Kanpur: Seven Additional Corridors

Kanpur is set to witness the addition of seven new metro corridors, covering a total distance of 74.9 kilometers. This expansion aims to bolster the existing infrastructure, providing residents with more efficient and accessible transit options.

Agra: Eleven New Corridors Planned

For the historic city of Agra, plans have been laid out for eleven new metro corridors, totaling 88.9 kilometers. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the public transportation framework, facilitating better movement within the city and to key tourist destinations.

Strategic Planning and Implementation

The UPMRC has submitted these proposals to the Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Planning Department. The strategic plan aligns with the state’s vision for urban development, focusing on long-term solutions to meet the anticipated demands of urbanization. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for each corridor will be developed upon receiving the necessary approvals, ensuring systematic and phased implementation of the expansions.
