Metaphor Lit Fest brings discussions on collective action alive

Lucknow: Dr. Anita Bhatnagar Jain recently conducted an insightful session at Metaphor, where she addressed critical issues related to environmental awareness, social change, and the power of collective action. Expressing her gratitude for being part of the event, Dr. Jain began by highlighting the declining practice of storytelling between adults and children, emphasizing its importance in fostering learning and emotional connections. She shed light on the worsening pollution levels in cities like Lucknow, discussing the severe impact of poor air quality on public health, particularly among children.

To raise awareness, she shared her story “बहुत कुछ किया जा सकता है, कुछ करोगे क्या?” (Much Can Be Done, Will You Do Something?), encouraging children to think about their role in tackling environmental problems. Dr. Jain also underscored the significance of the right to information, asserting that asking questions about pollution is not only a right but a responsibility.

Engaging the children with thought-provoking questions about the Earth, pollution, and harmful substances like SPM (Suspended Particulate Matter), she stressed the importance of understanding the environmental issues at hand. Reflecting on societal changes, she pointed out how the individual has become a priority in modern times, contrasting it with past values that prioritized society and community.

Throughout the session, Dr. Jain emphasized the need for unity, stating that collective efforts lead to more effective solutions. She concluded with a powerful message urging everyone to be part of the solution to environmental challenges, inspiring her audience to take action and work towards a cleaner, healthier world.
