Lucknow: Meerut emerged victorious in the 29th Sub-Junior Boys Uttar Pradesh State Basketball Championship 2025, displaying a dominant attack and solid defense to claim the winner’s trophy.
Organized by the Uttar Pradesh Basketball Association at the KD Singh Babu Stadium’s Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Multipurpose Hall, the championship final saw Meerut maintain control throughout the match against Varanasi, winning 69-37. By halftime, Meerut had established a commanding 45-21 lead, leaving Varanasi struggling to recover.
For Meerut, Kaushal led the charge with 18 points, supported closely by Arush, who contributed 17 points. Varanasi’s Nikhil managed 6 points, offering limited resistance.
In the third-place playoff, Gorakhpur defeated Agra 71-44. Gorakhpur’s Ankit scored 20 points, while Agra’s Aman contributed 16 points. Gorakhpur held a comfortable 31-15 lead at halftime, maintaining their dominance to secure the podium finish.

The championship concluded with an award ceremony attended by Sports Director Dr. R.P. Singh as chief guest, along with distinguished guests Dilip Singh (Elite Infravision Director), senior players Manish Dubey and Rashid Ahmed. Awards were presented to the winning athletes.
The event also saw participation from Regional Sports Officer Atul Sinha, international basketball players Ankur Anand Singh and Abhinav Singh Pundir, organizing secretary Niyaz Ahmed, and Pradyot Voleti, founder of Dribble Academy, along with numerous sports enthusiasts.
Earlier in the semifinals, Meerut defeated Agra 57-29, while Varanasi edged out Gorakhpur 58-52 to secure a place in the final.
