Barcelona/Lucknow: Medanta has emerged as India’s leading stroke care institution at the World Stroke Congress 2025, securing the prestigious Diamond Status Award and earning the highest number of recognitions among Indian hospitals. The global event, organised by the World Stroke Organization, was held in Barcelona, Spain, from October 22 to 27, bringing together top stroke specialists and institutions from around the world.
The World Stroke Organization has officially recognised Medanta as India’s best stroke care hospital this year, acknowledging its superior performance across clinical parameters, treatment processes, and patient outcomes.
Dr. Anup Thakkar, Director of Neurology at Medanta, credited the achievement to the hospital’s highly structured and time-sensitive stroke care system. He emphasised that administering treatment within the crucial four-and-a-half-hour window dramatically increases the chances of preventing paralysis in stroke patients.
“To ensure rapid and systematic care, we have implemented a Stroke Code system. From the moment a patient arrives, the team begins assessment and initiates treatment within minutes. The target is 60 minutes, but at Medanta, we have consistently achieved this in an average of 42 minutes,” Dr. Thakkar said.

The hospital’s integrated multidisciplinary approach—bringing together neurologists, neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, paramedical experts, and nursing teams—has been key to its success. Medanta excelled across all core indicators, including swift diagnosis, prompt treatment, post-procedure care, and rehabilitation.
This international recognition marks a significant milestone not only for Medanta but also for India’s growing prominence in global healthcare. The award, officials said, will further motivate Medanta’s stroke care team to enhance its clinical excellence and continue setting new benchmarks in patient care.
