Medanta Hospital Marks World Cancer Day with Awareness Programme Featuring Cancer Survivors

Lucknow: On the occasion of World Cancer Day, Medanta Hospital organised a cancer awareness programme in Lucknow, bringing together doctors and more than 40 cancer survivors to spread awareness about early detection, timely treatment, and emotional well-being. The event aimed to dispel myths surrounding cancer and reinforce the message that the disease can be effectively managed with the right medical care and positive outlook.

During the interactive session, cancer survivors shared their personal journeys, recounting how early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and mental strength helped them overcome the disease. Several participants said that at the time of diagnosis, their families were emotionally shattered, as cancer is still widely perceived as incurable. However, proper medical guidance and sustained treatment restored their confidence and gave them a new lease on life.

To make the event memorable, the survivors were also taken on a Lucknow city tour aboard a UP Tourism double-decker bus. The tour covered prominent landmarks including 1090 Chauraha, Vidhan Sabha, Residency Park, and UP Darshan Park. Participants captured photographs, shared joyful moments, and described the experience as inspiring and filled with renewed hope.

As part of the awareness programme, Medanta’s senior doctors addressed various aspects of cancer prevention and treatment. Dr Harshvardhan Atreya, Director – Medical Oncology, spoke about early warning signs of cancer. Dr Vivekanand Singh, Director – Head and Neck Cancer, stressed the importance of timely screening and early diagnosis. Dr Abhishek Singh, Director – Medical Oncology, highlighted cancer risk factors and preventive measures. Dr Anshul Gupta, Director – Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant, addressed common myths and facts related to cancer, while Dr Mohd Suhaib, Director – Radiation Oncology, spoke on the role of a healthy lifestyle in prevention and recovery.

Emphasising holistic care, Dr Roma Pradhan, Associate Director – Cancer Care, underlined the need for psychological and emotional support for patients and their families. Dr Resham Srivastava, Associate Director – Radiation Oncology, discussed advanced treatment options and modern technologies now available for cancer care. The programme was also attended by Dr Neeraj Rastogi, Director – Radiation Oncology, and Dr Amit Agrawal, Director – Cancer Care, Endocrine and Breast Surgery.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rakesh Kapoor, Medical Director, Medanta Hospital, said that cancer is no longer an untreatable disease. He noted that early detection, regular screening, and appropriate treatment can significantly improve survival rates and quality of life. He added that awareness and strong trust between doctors and patients play a crucial role in successful cancer treatment.

The event concluded with a renewed message of hope, resilience, and the importance of collective efforts in the fight against cancer.
