Mayawati Criticizes Congress, Questions Commitment to Ambedkar’s Ideals

Lucknow – Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, alleging that it has never been truly committed to the principles and vision of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

Mayawati’s remarks came in response to controversial statements and alleged death threats directed at her by Congress leader and former MP Udit Raj. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she asserted that the Congress has never respected Ambedkar’s legacy and that any programs it organizes in his name are politically motivated rather than genuine efforts for social justice.

“Congress Never Respected Ambedkar”

In her post, Mayawati accused the Congress of undermining Ambedkar’s struggle for the self-respect and dignity of Dalits and Bahujans, both during his lifetime and after his death. “The Congress party, which has consistently scorned Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s humanitarian efforts, can never be loyal to his thoughts and policies,” she wrote in Hindi, adding that Congress’s recent attempts to engage with Ambedkar’s ideology are merely for political mileage.

She urged Ambedkar’s followers to remain vigilant and not be deceived by Congress’s symbolic gestures, such as its slogans of “Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Mandal, Jai Samvidhan.” According to Mayawati, these programs are designed to serve the party’s electoral interests rather than truly empower the Bahujan community.

Warning Against Opportunists

The BSP chief also cautioned Dalits against individuals within the community who exploit their cause for personal gains. “The Bahujan Samaj should be wary of opportunists who frequently switch parties and make irrational claims to appease their political masters,” she said. She further warned that such individuals do not truly understand the movement for social change and economic liberation.

Controversy Over Udit Raj’s Remarks

The controversy erupted after Udit Raj reportedly stated at a public event in Lucknow that Mayawati had “strangled the social movement and it was time to strangle her.” His remarks have ignited a political storm, raising concerns over the safety of the BSP leader.

In response, Mayawati’s nephew and BSP leader Akash Anand took to X, demanding immediate legal action against Udit Raj. “I want to clearly tell @uppolice that these criminals should be arrested within 24 hours and strict action should be taken under the law, otherwise the Bahujan youth of the country will not remain silent,” Anand wrote.

He further criticized Udit Raj, stating that the Congress leader frequently shifts allegiances for personal gain. “Udit Raj, once a colleague of Kanshiram Saheb, now oscillates between the BJP and Congress, claiming to represent the Bahujan cause while actually pursuing his own political ambitions,” Anand alleged.

Anand also dismissed Udit Raj’s justification for his statements, asserting that they constituted a direct threat against Mayawati. “As a young soldier of the Bahujan Mission, I have a deeper understanding of Baba Saheb’s and Manyavar Saheb’s visions. His rhetoric is unacceptable to millions of Bahujan Mission warriors,” he said. He accused Udit Raj of disrespecting Kanshiram’s legacy and using the Bahujan Movement solely as a means to secure political positions.

The remarks have intensified political tensions between the BSP and Congress, with growing demands for Udit Raj’s prosecution. As the controversy unfolds, political observers anticipate further developments in the coming days.
