Mango Magic in a Bottle: UP’s First Mango Winery Opens Doors in Malihabad

Lucknow — In a first for the state, a unique winery dedicated to crafting alcoholic beverages from mangoes and other indigenous fruits was inaugurated on Sunday in the Mal area of Malihabad, located on the outskirts of Lucknow.

Established in the heart of a sprawling 100-acre mango orchard, the winery has been developed with an investment of nearly ₹10 crore. The facility was formally inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Excise Minister Nitin Agarwal, accompanied by senior officials from the excise and horticulture departments.

Madhavendra Deo Singh, a Malihabad native and the entrepreneur behind the venture, shared that the winery is preparing to offer day tours in the coming months. Meanwhile, its exclusive range of fruit-based wines will be available directly from the winery premises.

“We have crafted four varieties using only locally grown produce, entirely free from synthetic additives,” Singh said. The products, which are made using mangoes, honey, mulberries, mint, and other regional fruits, will be sold in bottles priced between ₹300 and ₹1,200, depending on the size and variant.

Singh, who holds an MBA in agricultural business management and a passion for sustainable farming, clarified that the wines are made without added sugars or ethanol. “All ingredients are natural. We are committed to keeping it that way going forward,” he assured.

Two years ago, Singh founded a private venture named Mbrosia Nature Living, which later entered into an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh horticulture department during the last Investors’ Summit. His initiative aligns with the state government’s vision of encouraging agro-based industries and promoting farmer-led income generation.

The winery is also producing braggot, a unique brew blending characteristics of beer and mead, reflecting a fusion of traditional and modern brewing methods.

To promote innovation and investment in local agribusiness, the UP government introduced the concept of ‘Made in UP’ wines in March 2022, which exempts excise duties on beverages made exclusively from locally sourced fruits.

With the launch of this first-of-its-kind mango winery, Malihabad — already famous for its mangoes — may soon find itself on the map of culinary tourism and wine connoisseurship.
