Meerut : In a bizarre turn of events, a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has been arrested for impersonating a police sub-inspector to meet his girlfriend. The accused, Shubham Rana, went to shocking lengths by getting a police uniform tailored and posing as a cop to freely visit his girlfriend’s house without raising suspicion.
According to police officials, Rana had falsely claimed to be posted at Dadri Police Station in Noida. He not only used the fake identity for personal reasons but also allegedly extorted money from unsuspecting people, taking full advantage of his fraudulent uniform.
The incident came to light when locals grew suspicious of his movements and tipped off authorities. Upon interrogation, it was discovered that Shubham had previously worked on a temporary basis with the Forest Department, which may have helped him understand how to mimic the behavior and appearance of a government official.

Police recovered the complete fake police uniform, including a cap and insignia (stars), from the accused. He had been using the uniform regularly to roam freely and gain trust in the community.

Shubham has been taken into custody and booked under multiple sections, including impersonation of a public servant and fraud. Authorities are now investigating whether any further crimes were committed by him under the guise of a police officer.
This incident raises concerns about the misuse of official attire and has prompted officials to consider tighter surveillance and identification checks, especially in sensitive areas.
