Lucknow: The Aliganj Police Station arrested an accused for allegedly attempting to set a man on fire by pouring petrol over him following a dispute over money.
According to police officials, the incident took place on March 27 in the Aliganj area, when the accused attacked the victim, identified as Rakesh Yadav, while he was returning home. The assault reportedly stemmed from a financial dispute that had occurred two days earlier.
The complaint was lodged by Rani Yadav, sister of the victim, who informed the police that the accused poured petrol on her brother and attempted to burn him alive. The victim sustained serious burn injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. Under the directions of senior officers of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, the accused was arrested near Purnia Pul at around 2:40 PM based on a tip-off.
The accused, identified as Amarsen Chaudhary alias Balgar (33), is reported to have a criminal background with multiple cases registered against him in the past, including serious offences.

During interrogation, the accused admitted that he had a heated argument with the victim on March 25 over money and personal issues. In a fit of anger, he carried petrol in a bottle and attempted to kill the victim by setting him on fire. However, the victim survived the attack.
Police have since modified the charges based on further evidence and are continuing the investigation. The accused is being produced before the court following completion of legal formalities.
Officials stated that strict action will be pursued to ensure the आरोपी receives appropriate punishment. The Lucknow Police Commissionerate reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and taking firm action against criminal activities in the city.
