Makar Sankranti and Lohri Celebrations Kick Off “Kumbh Vibes” Festival at Saharaganj

Lucknow – The “Kumbh Vibes” three-weekend festival commenced on a grand note at Saharaganj on Saturday, January 11. Organized by Saharaganj, the first weekend featured a “Makar Sankranti and Lohri Special” event, which saw enthusiastic participation from visitors of all ages. The day included activities such as a Maha Kumbh quiz, an exhibition of historical records and photographs related to the Kumbh, a kite-making contest, a Punjabi traditional attire contest, Gidda and Bhangra performances, and an artificial bonfire.

The second weekend, scheduled for January 18, will host the “Kumbh Special Tridhara” program, while the final weekend on January 25 will celebrate Republic Day with a special “Veeron Ko Naman” event. A giant kalash (pitcher), set up as a selfie point, has already become a favorite among attendees. The festival is being held every weekend from 3 PM to 8 PM, with free participation for all.

Highlights of the First Weekend

Maha Kumbh Quiz

The event kicked off with a Maha Kumbh-themed quiz, offering participants a chance to win prizes. Questions like “When does the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 begin?” and “How often is the Maha Kumbh organized?” were posed to the audience. Winners, including Aarav, Aaradhya, and Ansh, received prizes sponsored by Youth Skill Volcano.

Historical Exhibition on Maha Kumbh

A special exhibition on the history of the Maha Kumbh provided visitors with insights into its cultural and spiritual significance. Attendees learned about the 14 jewels obtained during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) and the locations of the Kumbh Mela across India.

Painting Workshop

A painting workshop further engaged visitors, with participants like Shaurya Vist, Mehwish, Manavik, Aarvika, Devina, and Devangana showcasing their artistic talents.

Kite-Making Contest

A kite-making contest became a major attraction as participants decorated kites with foam flowers, stickers, and other materials, turning them into artistic masterpieces. Jasroop Kaur, Aarvika, and Ansh were among the notable participants, and winners were recognized by Youth Skill Volcano.

Punjabi Cultural Showcase

The “Punjabi Traditional Fashion Parade” stole the spotlight as participants walked the ramp in traditional Punjabi attire. Priya, Jasnoor Kaur, Anita, Sunita, Gurpreet Kaur, Sushma, and Sarita received accolades for their vibrant performances.

The event also featured high-energy performances by professional dance group Sopan Performing Arts, led by Sapna Singh and Nikhilesh Srivastava. Group members Sonali, Kesar, Shubhi, Abhishek, and Danish entertained the audience with electrifying Gidda and Bhangra performances on popular songs like “Lohri Aa Gayi Ji”, “Mehndi-Mehndi”, and “Rangla Punjab”.

Traditional Lohri Celebrations

An artificial bonfire added a festive charm to the Lohri celebrations. Visitors gathered around, enjoying traditional delicacies like gajak, rewri, murmura, peanuts, jaggery, and popcorn. The event concluded on a high note, with the presence of Saharaganj’s head, Sunil Banka, and other prominent guests.

As the “Kumbh Vibes” festival continues, visitors eagerly anticipate the upcoming programs, which promise more engaging activities and cultural experiences.
