Lucknow: In a significant reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh’s bureaucracy, senior IAS officer Sanjay Prasad has been appointed to lead the Chief Minister’s Office on the prestigious Fifth Floor (Pancham Tal), following the elevation of Shashi Prakash Goyal (SP Goyal) as the new Chief Secretary of the state.
A 1995-batch IAS officer, Sanjay Prasad is originally from Sitamarhi, Bihar, and was born on May 23, 1971. He joined the Indian Administrative Service after clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 1995, following his post-graduation. His first posting came on June 13, 1996, as Assistant Magistrate and Assistant Collector in Azamgarh. Over the years, he held several key positions, including that of Joint Magistrate in Muzaffarnagar, and is widely considered one of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s most trusted officers.
With SP Goyal—an IAS officer of the 1989 batch—taking over as Chief Secretary, Prasad’s influence within the corridors of power has further expanded. Goyal served for over eight and a half years as Additional Chief Secretary in the CM’s Office before being elevated to the topmost post in state bureaucracy. His appointment is seen as a decision based on seniority and the Chief Minister’s strong confidence in him. Goyal is expected to remain in the role until January 2027, giving him ample time to implement key state policies and oversee crucial work ahead of the next assembly elections.
An official government order has confirmed that Sanjay Prasad will now assume several of SP Goyal’s former responsibilities, including Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, and charge of critical departments such as Home, Confidential, Information, Visa, Passport, Vigilance, Civil Aviation, and State Property.

This appointment not only reflects Sanjay Prasad’s administrative capabilities but also underscores the CM’s deep trust in his leadership. With his expanded role, Prasad is poised to become an even more influential figure in Uttar Pradesh’s administrative landscape.
