Lucknow — In a major step toward promoting theatre arts in the private sector, Lucknow witnessed the inauguration of the state’s first-of-its-kind “G-J Academy of Dramatic Arts” on Thursday. The academy was inaugurated by Mahant Devyagiri of Mankameshwar Math Temple, marking a new chapter for structured dramatic education in Uttar Pradesh.
Renowned music thespian Alok Srivastava is the CEO of the institution, while Madhavi Nigam serves as the Managing Director.
The academy will offer both one-year and three-month certificate courses in dramatics, along with two unique initiatives:

Senior Citizens Drama Club to engage elderly participants in creative expression.

Bal Sanskarshala (Cultural Grooming Workshops) for children aged 5 to 16, to be conducted across the city at regular intervals.
Located at Gurukul Sadan, BBD, Uttar Dhauna Police Station area, the academy aims to blend culture, creativity, and values through theatre.
Addressing the gathering, Mahant Devyagiri emphasized that theatre is not merely a form of entertainment but a complete art form capable of shaping society. “There is a dire need to take the art of Natya Shastra, also known as the fifth Veda, to every household,” she said.
The event was graced by eminent theatre personalities including Chitra Mohan, Mridula Bhardwaj, Lalit Singh Pokhariya, Ashok Banerjee, Usha Banerjee, Sangam Bahuguna, former Bharatendu Natya Akademi Director Sushil Kumar Singh, and former Urdu Akademi Secretary S. Rizwan. Special invitee from Mumbai, Nishith Chandra, was also present.
Members of the Academy’s Board — Sudhir Srivastava (former HAL official), poet Jyoti Kiran Sinha, and senior doctor Rupali Srivastava — shared insights on the academy’s extensive future plans.
The launch of G-J Academy marks a significant cultural milestone, aiming to nurture talent across all age groups while preserving the rich heritage of Indian theatre.
