Mahakumbh 2025 Begins in Prayagraj with Special Akhada Tours for Devotees

Prayagraj: The much-awaited Mahakumbh 2025, the world’s largest religious gathering, has officially begun at the Sangam, the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. This grand event will continue until February 26, drawing millions of pilgrims to take a holy dip in the sacred waters.

In preparation for the massive influx of visitors, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has launched a variety of tour packages for the devotees. One such package is the Akhada Walk Tour, priced at ₹2000. The tour will begin from the Parade Ground Tent Colony at 7 AM and will last for 2.5 hours, providing a detailed visit to various akhadas. The tour will offer in-depth information about the significance of these spiritual sects. A minimum group of five people is required for booking the tour, which can be done through the official UPSTDC website, upstdc.co.in.

A Spiritual Walk Through History

Tourism and Culture Minister, Jayveer Singh, explained that the Akhada Walk Tour is designed to provide both domestic and international pilgrims with the opportunity to explore the rich spiritual and historical significance of Prayagraj and its changing landscape. The tour will also focus on prominent historical sites within the Kumbh area, offering a glimpse into the deep-rooted traditions of the region.

For a more immersive experience, specialized guides and experts will accompany tourists throughout the walk. This will allow participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the spiritual and cultural heritage of Prayagraj during Mahakumbh.

Combo Package for an Enhanced Experience

Additionally, the UPSTDC has launched a Combo Tour Package for ₹3500, which includes a chance to visit not just the akhadas but also interact closely with the Nagas, Aghoris, and Kavalvasis, providing an exclusive opportunity to witness the unique practices of these sects. This Combo Tour will run daily from 7 AM to 12 PM, covering a duration of 5 hours. The tour will also include a walk expert, a map of the Mela grounds, printed handouts, an eco-friendly carry bag, and a bottle of mineral water.

Exploring the Ancient Akhadas

Minister Jayveer Singh shared insights about the various revered akhadas in Prayagraj. Some of the key akhadas include:

  • Shri Panchdashnam Juna Akhada: One of India’s most important and ancient akhadas, integral to the Hindu ascetic tradition.
  • Shri Panchayati Akhada Niranjani: A major akhada associated with the Shaiva sect, with a history spanning over a millennium.
  • Shri Panch Atal Akhada: With a history of over 1,400 years, this akhada holds a significant place in India’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
  • Shri Panchayati Mahnirvani Akhada: One of the 13 major akhadas in India, belonging to the Dashnami sanyasi tradition.

Other notable akhadas include Shri Taponidhi Anand Akhada Panchayati, Shri Panchdashnam Aavahan Akhada, and Shri Dandami Akhada, all of which are part of various spiritual sects such as the Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions.

Minister Singh emphasized that the UPSTDC has been working relentlessly to ensure a smooth and enriching experience for devotees and tourists, offering not just a spiritual journey but also a deeper understanding of Prayagraj’s rich heritage, as well as the Kumbh’s transformative impact on global spirituality.

As Mahakumbh 2025 unfolds, these specialized tours provide a unique opportunity for visitors to delve into the ancient traditions and religious practices, all while experiencing the grandeur and devotion of the world’s largest spiritual gathering.
