LUCKNOW – The city of Lucknow transformed into a vibrant hub of athletic prowess as the district-level junior sports competitions, organized by the Directorate of Sports, U.P. and the Regional Sports Office, unfolded with high-octane performances across several iconic venues on March 10, 2026.
Athletics: Speed and Strength at K.D. Singh “Babu” Stadium
The athletics meet, inaugurated by V.R. Varun, Secretary of the District Athletics Association, showcased remarkable speed and endurance. Under the supervision of Sports Officers Mrs. Sheila Bhattacharya and Mr. Anand Srivastava, medals were awarded to the city’s rising stars.
Mangla Prasad emerged as the standout performer in the boys’ category, clinching gold in the 200m, 110m hurdles, and 400m hurdles.
Anup Patel demonstrated superior stamina by sweeping both the 1500m and 5000m long-distance events.
Kunal Singh dominated the field events, securing a double victory in the long jump and triple jump.
In the girls’ division, Aradhya Yadav claimed a “double” in the 200m and 400m, while Nandini took the top spot in the 100m sprint.
Mohini Yadav proved her mettle in the 3000m race, and Vaishnavi led the field in the long jump.
Court Battles: Handball and Volleyball Dominance
The handball tournament, opened by Chief Guest Rajesh Kumar Gaur and Special Guest Dr. Sumant Pandey, featured eight competitive teams. In a thrilling girls’ final, the K.D. Singh “Babu” Stadium team edged out Chowk Stadium with a 15-12 victory.
On the volleyball court, international referee Mr. Ajay Kumar Verma presided over the closing ceremony. The boys’ final saw K.D. Singh “Babu” Stadium outclass Army Public School in straight sets, winning 25-15 and 25-21.

Field Action: LDA Academy Triumphs in Football
Over at Chowk Stadium, the football championship drew significant interest as eight teams battled for the top spot. LDA Academy showcased tactical superiority in the final, defeating Tectro Academy with a decisive 3-1 scoreline. Prizes were distributed by the Guest of Honor, Councilor Anurag Mishra.
Hockey: Sports Hostel Lucknow Crowned Champions
The Mini Stadium in Vinay Khand hosted the boys’ hockey championship, inaugurated by JCP Lucknow, Babloo Kumar (IPS). The tournament saw intense competition leading to the final:
Mohd. Shahid Stadium secured their spot by defeating the Khelo India Center 2-1.
Sports Hostel Lucknow advanced after a 2-0 shutout against Veer Shivaji Hockey Academy.
In a high-stakes final, Sports Hostel Lucknow emerged victorious, narrowly defeating Mohd. Shahid Stadium 3-2.
Looking Ahead: Kabaddi Finals and More
The Kabaddi tournament kicked off under the guidance of Mr. Arvind Singh Kushwaha, with the final showdowns scheduled for March 11. The boys’ final pitted B.K.T. against Chowk Stadium, while Yuva Club prepared to take on Bharat Club in the girls’ division.
