Lucknow: Sanskrit Musical Workshop Concludes with Cultural Showcase

Lucknow — A 15-day Sanskrit music workshop jointly organised by Jyoti Kalash and the Sanskrit Sansthan concluded with a vibrant cultural programme at the Kaifi Azmi Auditorium in Gomti Nagar. The workshop, held from February 16 to March 2 at Amod Ashram, aimed to promote the use of Sanskrit through devotional and traditional songs.

A total of 24 participants received training in Sanskrit musical compositions under the guidance of renowned folk singer Asha Srivastava, associated with All India Radio and Doordarshan. During the concluding event, participants presented a range of Sanskrit songs including Saraswati Vandana, Jagadamba Vandana, Shiva Vandana, traditional “Putri Janam Sohar,” “Banna,” and festive Holi songs, all memorised and performed in Sanskrit.

The programme was presided over by Jagdanand Jha, Senior Administrative Officer of Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Sansthan. The chief guest was Dr. Abhimanyu Singh, Head of the Sanskrit Department at Lucknow University. Other distinguished guests included Ashok Banerjee, former Joint Director of the Information Department and Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly magazine Kala Vasudha, and Rashmi Chaudhary, former Deputy Director of All India Radio Lucknow.

Certificates were awarded to all participants during the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Usha Sinha, President of the organising institution, said the initiative aims to popularise Sanskrit among the general public by presenting devotional and cultural songs in the classical language. She added that such programmes help revive interest in Sanskrit and connect people with India’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.

The event began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by musical performances. Several artists and cultural enthusiasts, including Dr. Laxmi Rastogi, Jyoti Kiran Ratan, Shakti Srivastava, Kalpana Saxena, Jaya Srivastava, Rama Agnihotri, Geeta Singh, Sushma Agarwal, Shikha Srivastava, Manu Rai, Sarita Srivastava, Beena Saxena, Vineeta Srivastava, Preeti Srivastava, Alka Chaturvedi, Suman Mishra, Archana Gupta, Aparna Singh and others, were present at the programme.
