Lucknow Police Organizes Special Training Workshop on “How to Prepare Effective Seizure Memos”

Lucknow: Under the guidance of Lucknow Police Commissioner,  Amrendra Kumar Sengar, a specialized training workshop on “How to Prepare Effective Seizure Memos” was conducted today at the Seminar Hall, Reserve Police Lines, Lucknow. The workshop was organized in accordance with directives from the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, to strengthen training and operational efficiency within the police force.

The program was successfully conducted under the supervision of Joint Police Commissioner (Crime & Headquarters) Ms. Aparna Kumar, Joint Police Commissioner (Law & Order)  Babloo Kumar, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters)  Amit Kumawat, with Assistant Police Commissioner (Women Crime/Training Cell)  Soumya Pandey overseeing its smooth execution.

The workshop saw participation from nearly 90 officers and personnel nominated from various police stations and units across Lucknow. Adequate resources and presentation facilities were provided to ensure an effective and engaging learning environment.

Expert-Led Practical Training:
Participants received hands-on training from experienced prosecution officers,  Pratyush Dubey and  Ramakant Tripathi, covering proper preparation of seizure memos, documentation, and investigative procedures. Training included real-life examples to make concepts practical and applicable.

Key Topics Covered:

  • On-site memo preparation: Emphasizing immediate preparation of seizure memos at the scene to maintain evidence integrity.
  • Reading memos to the accused: Ensuring transparency by clearly reading all recorded facts to the accused.
  • Providing memo copies to the accused: Mandatory as per legal requirements.
  • Presence of independent witnesses: Ensuring impartiality during seizure proceedings.
  • NDPS Act compliance: Proper procedure under Section 50 for search, sampling, and sealing.
  • Arms Act adherence: Accurate recording of weapon type, bore, number, cartridges, and license verification.
  • Stock and permit verification: Ensuring legality under essential commodities regulations.
  • Sealing and sampling accuracy: Maintaining chain of custody for seized items.
  • Error-free writing: Avoiding cutting or overwriting; using clear, sequential, and precise language.
  • Depot submission and follow-up: Timely depositing of seized items and necessary forensic procedures.
  • Videography: Updated protocols for recording seizures and arrests.

Objective of the Workshop:
The training aimed to enhance police efficiency, improve the quality of documentation, and ensure investigations are more effective and error-free.

Future Plans:
Lucknow Police plans to conduct such workshops regularly to keep personnel updated with the latest knowledge and skills.

The workshop proved highly informative and practical, equipping officers with tools to improve performance, ensure legal compliance, and achieve better outcomes in criminal investigations.
