Lucknow Police Organises Workshop on Mental Health and Behavioural Skills for Personnel

Lucknow: The Lucknow Police Commissionerate organised a special training workshop on “Mental Health and Behavioural Skills” for police personnel, in line with directives from the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Director General of Police.

Held under the leadership of Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar, the workshop focused on enhancing efficiency, sensitivity, and mental resilience among traffic police and Dial 112 personnel.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of senior officers including Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime & Headquarters) Aparna Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Bablu Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Kamlesh Kumar Dixit, DCP (UP-112) Vikrant Veer, and DCP (Traffic) Raveena Tyagi. The workshop was supervised by Assistant Commissioner of Police Soumya Pandey.

Organised by the Commissionerate’s Specialized Training Branch at the Seminar Hall in Reserve Police Lines, the session saw participation from around 170 police personnel. The training emphasised practical techniques to manage emotions and maintain composure in high-pressure situations.

A key highlight of the workshop was the expert session led by renowned psychiatrist and counsellor Dr. Anjali Gupta from Noor Manzil Hospital. She provided scientific and practical insights into mental health management tailored for policing environments.

Participants were trained in several psychological techniques, including the concept of “Reaction vs Response,” encouraging officers to pause briefly before responding in stressful situations to ensure better decision-making and avoid conflicts. The Tactical Reset Breath technique was also demonstrated, helping personnel regulate heart rate and achieve instant calmness during high-pressure scenarios.

The session further highlighted the importance of recognising early signs of mental stress such as insomnia, irritability, and fatigue. Officers were encouraged to remain self-aware and seek professional help when required. Emphasis was also placed on empathetic policing, underlining that mentally balanced personnel are better equipped to interact sensitively with the public and victims.

The initiative reflects the administrative vision of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate to strengthen not only the physical readiness but also the psychological well-being of its force. Officials stated that similar workshops will be conducted regularly to equip personnel with modern stress management techniques and effective communication skills.

The workshop marks a significant step towards fostering a more resilient, composed, and citizen-friendly police force in Lucknow.
