Lucknow Police Launches ‘Cyber Dussehra’ Campaign to Raise Awareness Against Online Fraud

Lucknow: In a unique initiative during Vijayadashami, the Lucknow Police Cyber Team carried out a special campaign to educate citizens about cyber safety, equating modern-day cyber criminals to the ten-headed demon king Ravana. Thousands of devotees attending the Ramlila and Dussehra celebrations in the Ashiyana area participated in the awareness drive, receiving guidance on protecting themselves from online scams.

Cyber Crime Highlighted During Ravan Dahan
During the Ravan Dahan ceremony, the cyber team drew parallels between Ravana’s ten heads representing vices and the tactics used by cyber criminals—such as greed, deceit, fear, and betrayal—to exploit unsuspecting individuals. Live broadcasts allowed both attendees and online viewers to understand that the true victory of Dussehra is safeguarding oneself from online fraud.

Practical Tips and Helplines Shared
Police officials emphasized the rising cases of online fraud, phishing calls, fake links, gaming scams, and OTP thefts. Citizens were urged never to share OTPs, ATM or UPI PINs, or bank passwords. The public was advised to report any cybercrime immediately via the national helpline 1930 or www.cybercrime.gov.in. The police highlighted that timely information and awareness are the strongest tools in preventing cybercrime.

Blending Devotion with Technology
Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime) Kiran Yadav explained that the campaign aimed to teach citizens the importance of vigilance in a devotional setting. Guided by the Police Commissioner, the initiative demonstrated how traditional festivals could be used to convey modern safety messages. Slogans like “Stay Alert, Stay Safe, Lucknow Police is with You” reinforced the importance of cyber security among devotees and online audiences.

The Cyber Dussehra campaign successfully combined faith, tradition, and technological awareness, making the festival not only a religious celebration but also a reminder of social responsibility in the digital age.
