Lucknow Police Introduces Continuous Digital Monitoring to Enhance Public Safety

Lucknow: In a major move to strengthen public safety, transparency, and accountability, the Lucknow Police Commissionerate has announced the rollout of continuous digital monitoring for all beat in-charges and traffic police personnel. The initiative, described as the first of its kind in the city, aims to transform policing into a data-driven, responsive, and citizen-centric system.

The new mechanism will operate through a dedicated mobile application being developed under the supervision of Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Babloo Kumar. The application will track the real-time movement of beat officers on a second-by-second basis, enabling senior officials to verify patrolling activity instantly. Special focus will be placed on night-time monitoring, allowing authorities to quickly confirm whether officers were present at designated locations during any untoward incident.

Beyond routine patrolling, the system will monitor a wide range of policing responsibilities. These include intelligence gathering, surveillance of history-sheeters and anti-social elements, verification of tenants, domestic workers, vendors, and construction labourers, as well as regular reviews of CCTV footage and social media inputs related to local disturbances. Beat officers will also be required to maintain consistent engagement with residents, traders, resident welfare associations (RWAs), and local representatives to ensure swift reporting of suspicious activities.

Traffic police personnel will be covered under the same monitoring framework to ensure timely deployment, efficient traffic regulation, and prevention of congestion at major intersections. The system will help identify absenteeism, ineffective deployment, or delayed responses, thereby ensuring greater operational discipline and accountability.

According to JCP Babloo Kumar, real-time location tracking will significantly improve emergency response. “Nearby officers can be dispatched immediately during crimes or accidents, sharply reducing response times,” he said.

He added that the data generated through the system will help identify crime patterns, peak incident zones, and vulnerable locations. This will allow police to plan preventive patrols and make strategic deployments more effectively. Objective performance assessment will also discourage negligence and reinforce adherence to duty.

Senior police officials подчеркed that the initiative goes beyond crime control. Its primary objective is crime prevention through proactive policing, supported by technology. By leveraging digital tools and real-time data, the Lucknow Police aims to set new benchmarks in urban safety and move closer to making the city one of India’s safest metropolitan areas.
