Lucknow : The Lucknow Police Commissionerate has undergone a structural reorganization aimed at improving law enforcement efficiency and operational management across the city. As per the new format, five zones have been demarcated into a total of 16 police circles. Although this structure had already been functioning informally, it has now been formalized and notified under a revised framework.
Western Zone Gets the Highest Number of Circles
According to the updated format, the Western Zone now has the highest number of circles—four in total. These are: Chowk, Bazarkhala, Kaiserbagh, and Kakori. The remaining four zones—Central, Northern, Eastern, and Southern—each comprise three circles.
Here’s how the new division stands:
-
Central Zone: Hazratganj, Cantt, Mahanagar
-
Northern Zone: Aliganj, Malihabad, Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT)
-
Eastern Zone: Ghazipur, Gomti Nagar, Vibhuti Khand
-
Southern Zone: Mohanlalganj, Gosainganj, Krishna Nagar
From 52 to 54 Police Stations
The transformation of the Commissionerate began following the merger of urban and rural police areas on November 4, 2022, when Lucknow Nagar and Lucknow Gramin were unified. Subsequently, the Commissionerate was restructured into five zones and 16 circles, initially overseeing 52 police stations.
Recently, following directives from the Uttar Pradesh government, two more police stations—Mahingwa and the Cyber Crime Police Station—have been brought under the Commissionerate’s purview. With this addition, the total number of police stations under the Lucknow Commissionerate has risen to 54.
Administrative Order Issued
The new structural order was officially issued by Lucknow Police Commissioner Amrendra Kumar Sengar on April 19, 2025. The aim of the reorganization is to streamline police operations, ensure better distribution of responsibilities, and enhance public service delivery across all regions of the capital.
The revised format is expected to bring clarity and agility in the day-to-day functioning of the police force, ultimately contributing to more responsive and citizen-friendly policing.
