Lucknow: In a major breakthrough, Lucknow Police have exposed a well-organised gang of tricksters involved in stealing valuables from unsuspecting commuters in crowded areas and at traffic intersections. The operation led to the arrest of four seasoned criminals and the recovery of 23 stolen smartphones, ₹1,650 in cash, and the vehicle used in the crimes.

The arrested individuals are:

Ravindra Kumar (Age 26), resident of Haripur Nagar, PS Baleni, Baghpat

Rizwan (Age 32), resident of Purwa Fayyaz Ali, PS Delhi Gate, Meerut

Rizzu alias Rizwan (Age 30), resident of Mehtab Salima Gali, PS Cantt, Meerut

Azim (Age 34), resident of Chaube Bajaria, PS Railway Road, Meerut
Crime Uncovered
The case dates back to April 6, 2025, when complainant Santosh Kumar Verma filed a report of mobile phone and wallet theft from his parked car. The wallet reportedly contained ₹8,000 and important documents. Acting swiftly, the police began a thorough investigation, scanning over 125 CCTV footage clips from around the crime scene.
This led to a breakthrough on April 10, when all four suspects were taken into custody.
Modus Operandi
During interrogation, the accused confessed to targeting vehicles stuck in traffic or parked in busy areas. They would knock on car doors, distract the passengers, and swiftly steal valuables kept inside. Operating together in a single vehicle, the gang would execute multiple thefts in a day, later selling off the stolen items to fund their lavish lifestyles.

The police also revealed that Rizwan has a prior criminal record with multiple charges in Meerut under the Arms Act, Excise Act, and theft cases.
Police Action and Further Investigation
The gang was busted by a team from Gautampalli Police Station under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, and the guidance of DCP (Central) and Additional DCP (Central). Authorities have stated that a detailed investigation is underway, and strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
