Lucknow: To mark International Women’s Day, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) organized a special metro ride for underprivileged women and adolescents associated with the NGO Vigyan Foundation. A total of 25 women and 5 adolescents traveled across the metro corridor from Munshipulia to CCS Airport, with some experiencing metro travel for the first time. Before the journey, participants were briefed on the metro’s safety measures for women.
UPMRC Managing Director Shri Sushil Kumar emphasized the significance of women’s participation in economic activities. “A nation progresses when men and women contribute equally. Women hold 25% of key positions like station controllers and train operators in UPMRC, and this number is growing. In our latest recruitment drive, women’s participation has increased to 30%,” he stated.
He further reassured passengers about Lucknow Metro’s safety standards. “We have implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure both you and your belongings are completely safe,” he added.
