Lucknow: In a shocking incident that has raised serious questions about security in even the most elite residential neighborhoods of the capital city, a broad daylight robbery took place in the high-profile Eldeco Colony under PGI Police Station limits. Thieves looted the home of Dr. Jayashankar Shukla while he and his wife were away on a European trip.
Thieves Break In, Lounge Around, and Loot
According to reports, Dr. Shukla and his wife Purnima had left for Europe on June 20. Taking advantage of their prolonged absence, the criminals broke through the main gate and entered the house, spending nearly two and a half hours inside without fear.
CCTV footage revealed the audacity of the burglars — they roamed around the house, casually drank cold drinks, ate chips, and then systematically emptied cupboards and drawers. The loot included around ₹18 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery, six mobile phones, a laptop, tablet, camera, and an LCD TV.
Robbers Escaped in Doctor’s Own Car
In an even more brazen move, the criminals loaded the stolen goods into Dr. Shukla’s own car and drove away. The theft came to light only when neighbours, noticing broken locks, called Dr. Shukla and informed him. Upon returning, he found his home ransacked. A metal rod left behind on the table is believed to have been used by the intruders.

Domestic Help Under Scrutiny
Dr. Shukla had arranged for a maid to oversee the house during their absence. However, in his police complaint, he mentioned that the maid did not show up even once. This has led investigators to suspect possible insider involvement.
Police Investigation Underway
PGI Station House Officer Dhirendra Singh confirmed that CCTV footage is being thoroughly examined to identify the culprits. He stated that the role of the maid is also under investigation and assured that arrests will be made soon.
This daring robbery has sparked concern among residents of the Eldeco Colony and highlighted the need for enhanced home surveillance and more proactive neighborhood watch systems, especially during extended absences.
